Our Privacy Commitment

Substack Helper is built with a privacy-first architecture. We believe you should be able to explore and export content without being tracked, profiled, or monitored.

Unlike most web applications, we don't require you to create an account, and we don't store your data on our servers. Your reading habits and exports stay on your device.

Data We Don't Collect

We explicitly do not collect or store:

  • Publication URLs - We don't log which Substack publications you explore
  • Export content - PDFs and Markdown files are generated in your browser, never touching our servers
  • Personal information - No names, emails, or identifiers
  • Browsing history - No tracking of your navigation within the app
  • Device fingerprints - No browser fingerprinting or device identification
  • IP addresses - We don't log visitor IP addresses

How the App Works

Publication Data Fetching

When you enter a Substack URL, our server makes requests to Substack's public API endpoints to fetch the publication archive. This data is passed directly to your browser and is not stored on our servers.

Export Generation

PDF and Markdown exports are generated entirely in your browser using client-side JavaScript. The generated files are downloaded directly to your device. We never see or store your exported content.

Post Content Fetching

When you export a post, your browser requests the post's HTML through our server (to handle CORS restrictions). This content passes through but is not logged or stored.

Cookies and Local Storage

Substack Helper uses minimal browser storage:

  • Essential cookies only - Technical cookies required for the website to function
  • No tracking cookies - We don't use analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking cookies
  • No persistent storage - We don't store data in your browser's local storage (except for Plus users' saved publications, coming soon)

Third-Party Services

Our website makes requests to the following external services:

  • Substack - To fetch publication archives and post content
  • Google Fonts - To load the Inter and Space Mono typefaces
  • Vercel - Our hosting provider, which may collect basic server logs (we don't access these)

We do not use advertising networks, analytics platforms, or social media tracking pixels.

Substack Helper Plus

When we launch Substack Helper Plus (our premium tier), we will need to collect:

  • Email address - For account creation and subscription management
  • Payment information - Processed securely through Stripe (we never see your card details)
  • Saved publications - The URLs of publications you choose to save to your dashboard

This data will be stored securely and used only to provide the Plus service. We will never sell or share this information.

Content Ownership

All content exported through Substack Helper belongs to its original authors. We are a tool for personal use and do not claim any rights to exported content.

Please respect copyright and the intellectual property rights of content creators. Exported content should be used in accordance with applicable laws and Substack's terms of service.

Children's Privacy

Substack Helper is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated through the website. The current version will always be available on this page.
